3rd pic is our new closet

demo of the upstairs bathroom. Was this part of the plan? No....but when they added the bath in the 20's or 30's the owners cut some of the supports in the floor. OOPS!

New Stairs!

New Stairs to Basement - you access the stairs from the hallway that lead from the bathroom to the TV room. Ya know, stairs take up a lot of room - I think I like our illegal Lilliputian style better!

Danger! Holes cut in the floors all over the house.

Stairs going upstairs to Grace and John's room - you access from the back of the house from the middle of the old kitchen.

The closet will come out on Tues so we have a real landing at the top of the stairs.

Gap between old floor (see my feet) and new stairs

New support beam that will be part of John's room (upstairs) and gathering space (downstairs)

Measurements: Snow and Refrig doors

The biggest storm in VA....EVER!  Sheesh!

Total snowfall was 54" for the week of Feb 7th.  New outside walls are being framed in Southern Va so as soon as dig out they should be ready to be delivered and installed. In the meantime the crew has been building the new supporting wall and basement/upstairs staircases.

Other measuring tip: Measure the TOTAL opening of your refrigerator - with the doors OPEN to make sure you can access the entire area. Our first measurement (and spec) said the refrig we selected would fit into the space. When we returned to check our appliances 1 more time Dan said "I don't think we'll be able to access all the freezer space because we have to open the freezer door more than 90 degrees." Oooohhh - CRAP!  Back to the drawing board for the cabinetry in this area.  I can't have an old school fridge but I don't want to lose any cabinet space. Measure, measure, measure!

Counter tops - final 2

2 finalists in the honed finish.  Left is the preference of our architect.  It has more true black and tan to pick up cabinetry.

Right is a little more variation.

I like both so Dan will probably flip the coin.

New basement stairs

The box for the new stairs

Access from the 1st floor (near dining room and new BR). Old staircase comes out today.
